Before an audience of friends, family, and known unknowns, on October 15th, at approximately 4:20 PM, on the terrace of Edith Wharton’s The Mount in Lenox, Massachusetts, I sat at a podium and read from my memoir Not Yet! Ta! Da! The book was launched…
Two years of passion-filled days and nights of yin and yang….”I love this.” “Who am I kidding… no one is ever going to read this…” “Am I being honest…” “OMG, stop sucking your thumb and tell it like it was.”
These and a million similar thoughts had to be battled through on a daily basis. I deleted as much as remains and that’s a good thing. Otherwise, like Penelope and her knitting, the book would never have been finished. (You’ll have to buy the book if you want to know how Penelope, wife of Ulysses of epic poem fame, fits in… I’m so sneaky)
It was a glorious event. However, everything that could have happened to turn an event into a catastrophe was saved not by the bell but by Susan Wissler, Executive Director of The Mount, Matthew Tannenbaum, owner of The Bookstore in Lenox, and my friend and manager Lynnette Najimy. Without these heroes and heroines, there wouldn't have been a book launch.
All to say, the book has arrived and is available in paperback and Kindle editions on Amazon. Or, if, like me, you go out of your way to support indie bookstores and appreciate the convenience of online shopping, go to bookshop.org, where a portion of the sale goes to the indie bookstore of your choice.
And, before the holidays, the audiobook edition will be available with my mellifluous tones filling the airwaves.
I want to thank everyone for the wonderful reception my reading of excerpts received. I particularly want to recognize those who laughed, cried, and saw themselves in all the right places. It reminded me of how if we scratch the surface, we are one. I didn’t know before that what I was writing wasn’t only about me but would touch so many people. For me, that is the essence of why I wrote my story.
So, hold on to your hats and join me in revisiting the love and joy of this glorious event…
Love ~ Sally-Jane
P.S. Don’t forget to write your review on Amazon. With your help, I could still become the Grandma Moses of the publishing world.
